Maxine Nienow is a Mexican painter-turned-photographer, art director, and set designer with a passion for examining life through the lens of beauty and light. Maxine explores the world seeking ways to show the humanity, culture and essence of people through creative imagery.

With an emphasis on portraiture, Maxine creates environments where the subject feels free to express themselves fully, resulting in unique and vibrant artwork that shows aspects of their true personality.

Her training as a painter and ability to put people at ease allows Maxine to make images that bring forward the true essence of their subject. Whether in vibrant works of meticulously composited fantasy or beautiful images representing you or your brand, Maxine brings her talents as a full service photographer to every project in which she engages.

PAST PROJECTS

Previously, Maxine was the New York photographer for  Shameless Photography, a retro-inspired, body-positive company whose mission is to create a space for women to feel safe, beautiful, and empowered through photography. In the two years she ran the NY branch of Shameless, Maxine photographed more than 200 women, acting as a channel for their own creativity and helping them discover elements of their personality they might not have known existed.

Prior to her time with Shameless, Maxine created art across the globe, seeking ways to capture the world around her and bring awareness to the cultural issues affecting us. She earned a BFA in Photography at Parson’s School of Design NY, directed music videos for a Latin Grammy-winning band, and has shown work at galleries and museums including the Hermitage Museum in Russia, Art Basel in Miami, and The Armory Show in New York.

In 2012, Maxine co-created FlutuArte, a public art installation where 45 international artists joined to paint murals on the rooftops of 60 fishing boats in a historic harbor in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. FlutuArte brought not only new vibrant colors to this fishing community, but also a new economy of tourism.

These days Maxine can be found in Brooklyn, creating environments with lighting, set design and styling that result in painterly images. These images tell the story of the intimate and authentic truth of her subjects.
